The body you want starts in the kitchen?

Dang it! I'm not a huge fan of cooking, I love my sweets, and french fries bring immediate joy to my life. So reading that sentence and understanding that it's fairly true makes me sad beyond words.

Whats the solution? Taking those foods that I don't have a judgement on and making very healthy choices in their place.

Take for example, my occasional stop at Starbucks. I love the green tea and already get that unsweetened, so I'm okay on that count. I have enjoyed many of the bacon and Gouda breakfast sandwiches but after looking up the calories it contained I decided to switch to the egg white, spinach and feta breakfast wrap. I was not disappointed! It was very tasty and I stayed full well into lunch time.

The other side of that plan?

Allowing myself to have a few sweets every day, but not going over board. I had a couple pieces of chocolate and a birthday cake pop today. I hope to slowly cut back on them as time goes on.

How about setting a goal?

I will only have one sweet item per day for the next week. I'll check in on Monday and we'll see how it pans out!

How about a question for you! What is one food item you just can't part with? How does it affect your health and diet? Lets hear 'um, I won't judge!

Because I'm so committed to my other blog...

 Thursday, December 15, 2011

I have another blog. I haven't updated it in.... quite awhile. But despite that fact, I have agreed to keep a fitness/ healthy eating blog with my dear bestie, Heidi. Anyways, we recently had a conversation about fitness goals and things in our near futures which are better attended in a slightly healthier, and just perhaps smaller state of being.

So, in summary, I will do a little update every day (maybe every couple of days, maybe every week... we'll see how it goes before I make to many promises) about what I ate, new recipes I've tried, and the physical activities I do in hopes that it will hold me accountable and make me more aware of what I'm eating and doing to my body.

Just some background info. I've been doing Cross Fit at Ahwatukee Cross Fit for the past two months. I've definitely seen changes in my body shape in that time span, but want to ramp it up. A side note, I do not follow the healthiest of diets. I do a lot of eating out, which tends towards sugary and salty options, which probably doesn't keep me down the straight and healthy road.

Lets get it started!

Started off the day with my typical non sweetened Starbucks green tea, a bacon breakfast sandwich, but then I ventured into the world of sugar, and went for the birthday cake pops. Yup, that was plural. I had two. Before 10 am. No bueno.

Lunch was a delicious Chopped Chicken Cobb salad from Paradise Bakery, which was then followed again by the sugar craving. I satisfied that craving with a few fun sized candy bars and a can of Dr. Pepper. Note to self: Need to work on the sugar cravings.

I am proud of at least one meal today! I decided to try a rub my co-worker had raved about (Cowboy Coffee Rub) on a flat iron steak. The flat iron is one of the most tender cuts on a beef animal and is big enough to cut up and store for later use. It also falls into the 29 cuts of lean beef category. The rub was delicious and super easy. Just mixed it up, patted it on my steak, and slapped it on my George Foreman grill.

I also tried Creamy Mashed Cauliflower this evening. Also, super easy to prepare, but it didn't turn out exactly like I'd hoped. Not quite creamy enough, but it wasn't a total failure. I will have to try this in the future, maybe with a different recipe.

No working out today. The Boy and I are heading out to do some two stepping tomorrow night. Does that count?
